Be the VOICE of your community!

Access Sunnyslope, a project of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, worked with community partners and residents to make it easier to get to the places people visit in Sunnyslope for food, fun and services. The project gathered feedback from residents about their awareness and use of the SMART Circulator, a free neighborhood mini-bus used to access services in the area.

Resident Ambassadors were also selected to help "be the voice" of their fellow community residents. For two months, ambassadors conducted walkability assessments in their neighborhoods and along the SMART Circulator route. The findings from these assessments helped to shape advocacy recommendations for Sunnyslope residents to pursue with the City of Phoenix.

Project Accomplishments & Future Opportunities

Walkability Assessment Report
Resident Ambassadors conducted walkability assessments for three separate areas connected to the SMART Circulator route. The Access Sunnyslope Walkability Assessment Report analyzes and summaries the key findings and makes advocacy recommendations for Sunnyslope residents to pursue with the City of Phoenix.

Project Story Map
Through real-life experiences and voices from community members, the Access Sunnyslope story map focuses on issues and challenges when accessing food, fun and services using the SMART Circulator bus. The story map offers a better perspective of "what" the issue is and "where" it is occurring.
